Billy Joel and his band performed at the Barack Obama fundraiser at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom on Oct. 16th, 2008 along with Bruce Springsteen, India Arie, John Legend and Alexa Joel. Billy and Bruce also performed together, accompanied by Billy's band. President Obama spoke at the event. The photo at left was taken during the encore (L-R Tommy Byrnes, David Rosenthal, India Arie, John Legend, Michelle Obama, Barack Obama, Chuck Bürgi, Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa, Billy Joel, Crystal Taliefero and Alexa Joel.

At the end of the gig, President Obama hugged each one of the band members (L-R Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Michelle Obama and Barack Obama hugging David Rosenthal).
